[More info & pictures in Romanian]

August 2003. My name is Sorin Mihai Olteanu, I am 50 and I live in Bucharest (Romania). Former teacher of ancient greek at the International Academy for the Study of the History of Religions and Cultures of Bucharest, I am now a researcher at the Institute for Archaeology "Vasile Pârvan" of Bucharest. I have a PhD in history with a thesis on ancient balkanic toponyms in Procope's "De Aedificiis".
I graduated in 1976 the Faculty of Classical Languages of the University of Bucharest. There I had the honour of being a student of some great romanian teachers and scientists, among them prof. Cicerone Poghirc, prof. Dan Slusanschi, prof. Traian Costa and prof. Francisca Baltaceanu, from whom I got my love for Indo-Europenistics and especially for Thracology.
I participated at some thracological congresses and symposia. I didn't publish but few articles on epigraphic matters. I have instead gathered materials for several thracological basic tools and I learned connected fields as epigraphy, paleography, historical geography, history of the Romanian language a.s.o. I also worked a lot on the sources, especially Procope's "De Aedificiis" (which I translated into Romanian), but also on Strabon, Pliny, Ptolemy and Iordanes (which I translated all as well) and on the epigraphic material.
Five years ago I discovered the computer and I began to learn programming basics. Now I can easily use all tools, I write my HTML pages myself and I create my own programs in Visual Basic environment.
I can speak and write French (better) and English - quite as you see and for which I apologise, so you may address me in any of these languages. I also read German and Bulgarian, but much more difficult and only with dictionary, and Italian of course, because for a Romanian who knows Latin, Italian is almost like a dialect. I remained passioned of Indo-Europenistics.
I love Beatles, Rolling Stones and, most of all, Jimi Hendrix. The best song ever written and played? Jimi Hendrix and Mitch Mitchell in Jimi's Wait until tomorrow.
Thank you for your interest in my person. If you think we have something in common, something to share, you are welcome to contact me!

My work was well appreciated by the four referents (dr. Al. Suceveanu, prof. dr. Alexandru Barnea, prof. dr. Octavian Bounegru and dr. Crişan Muşeţeanu) and marked as very good - summa cum laude.
